Cars in Germany's City Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Authorities reported they were alerted by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the substance was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.

A senior political figure commented the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
